Since 2018, TSCP Group’s fire safety design and expertise team has been providing a high level of professionalism to meet the needs of our clients. They provide full-service fire protection design, expertise and consultancy on a number of projects within the group, working closely with other disciplines, while also standing alone in the market and providing services to other design firms.
Our team covers all aspects of design, and projects are involved from the conceptual design stage. Their fire protection solutions provide a high level of safety and cost-effective design, maximising client satisfaction and minimising downstream operator costs.
Their services include:
- full fire safety design of buildings
- 3D BIM-based fire protection design
- Fire and smoke propagation simulations (Fire Dynamics Simulation) to increase the efficiency of fire protection systems
- evacuation simulations for even greater safety
- detection and optimisation of errors in existing plans and concepts
- carrying out licensing procedures and consultations with the authorities
- drawing up a fire technical compliance manual
- providing expert advice on all matters relating to fire safety
- determination of fire zone temperatures by means of fire modelling for the fire design of load-bearing structures
- complex fire design services in-house with the involvement of the Met-Net Consortium Ltd. building services team
Their successful projects include the National Széchényi Library Archive, the Dr. Koltai Jenő Sports Centre of the University of Physical Education, and their latest project, a complete fire safety design the Dorothea Hotel Budapest.
The Marriott, Intercontinental and Sofitel hotel chains operate some of the world’s leading premium hotels, and our fire safety team has worked with Marriott and Intercontinental on projects including the Dorothea Hotel, the 219th hotel in Marriott’s Autograph Collection of premium hotels. The project presented many challenges. One of the design challenges was the need to create a premium hotel in a historic environment, in compliance with today’s national and international fire safety standards, from 3 adjacent buildings. An extra challenge was to harmonise the domestic ‘Prussian’ fire safety regulations with the hotel chain’s own Anglo-Saxon fire safety regulations, which often took opposite approaches to a given problem.
The heat and smoke dissipation of the unprecedented size of the representative internal atrium was optimised by FDS simulation. Another technical challenge was to accommodate the individually designed fire protection equipment while utilising 100% of the floor space. With the completion of the design process, the final result can be operated at a satisfactory level of safety for both the hotel chain and the national fire authorities.
Our design team has also been asked to design the redevelopment of the existing Verno House Hotel to join the Intercontinental Hotel chain. The fire safety concept and evacuation routes of the building, which was converted in 2010, did not meet the requirements of the hotel chain. The existing escape staircases had to be retrofitted to provide safe escape routes for the escapees via two independent routes. The technical details were developed in accordance with the comments received in consultation with Intercontinental fire safety experts.
The renovation has created evacuation routes for occupants on the room levels that are independent of the central atrium airspace, and an alternative escape route to the open air on the basement level. Dynamic directional lights guide the escapees to the appropriate route, depending on the area of the building from which the fire alarm was received. The variation of the loads on the staircases and evacuation routes over time was also tested by evacuation simulation, thus ensuring that no dangerous congestion would occur.
The fire protection team would like to expand in the future with a colleague for extinguishing system design, thus realising the conditions for in-house general fire protection design without the need for subcontractors.
Introducing our team:
Bálint Molnár, Team Leader
“I look at each job as a challenge to find the best solution to ensure that fire safety requirements are met and that the client’s and architectural expectations are met. TSPC Group typically undertakes the general design of large scale buildings, so I can say that every task undertaken on this project has been a challenge and I am proud to have been involved in the design.”
István Bihari, Project Manager Fire Protection Engineer
“I mostly enjoy the problem-solving part of my job. I like to develop technical solutions to problems that remain consistent with the architectural vision, while still being practical, feasible and safe to operate. Every major project has its own challenges, both at the design and construction stages, so it would be difficult for me to choose. Perhaps they are all similar in that they mostly require the design of individual solutions. I am most proud of the development of in-house simulation design. Experience so far has shown that both clients and, particularly important for me, the partner disciplines are satisfied with the work we do.”
